- Light and shade on 3D forms - graphite & coloured pencils
- Gesture and mark-making - ink workshop + landscape (you can bring your own landscape photo if preferred)

What will I achieve by the end of this course?

- Plan a composition and understand spatial relationships

- Understand tone and how to shade 3D forms
- Understand basic proportion and view points

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This is a course for beginners or rusty intermediates needing a refresher. No experience is necessary and live demonstrations will be provided to follow each step, plus support sheets as necessary.  Attendees must be able to follow verbal and written instructions, and adhere to health and safety information provided.   A mixture of teacher, self and peer assessment will be conducted in sessions, in order to identify what went well and areas for improvement.  You are encouraged to complete refining work at home and bring it in for feedback in the next session.

What do you recommend after this course?

Exploring Drawing 2.   This course will continue to build the foundation blocks of your drawing skills, moving onto slightly more challenging topics such as rules of perspective and creating depth, use of positive and negative space and creating textures. Attendees will work with a wider variety of media and begin to develop a more expressive and personal response in artwork.  You will learn about and respond to the work of a variety of well known drawing artists.  Attending both courses will lay the foundations for attending further sessions on such topics as landscape and figure drawing.

Future courses, special events or workshops will be gradually added to this website.
